Things to do in La Aldea
Hiking
La Aldea offers a unique setting for discovery along its footpaths. Its stuning pine tree forests lead to vertiginous coastal cliffs that pass through wonderful ravines and breathtaking natural panoramic viewing points. Its wide range of hiking paths can be used throughout the year by walkers of all levels who can enjoy areas of great ecological value with unique species not found anywhere else around the world.
Stargazing
La Aldea boasts favourable atmospheric conditions virtually all year round for stargazing. Its skies are clear of light contamination, enabling visitors to observe a large part of the southern skies that are not visible further north. The Guguy Visitor Centre has a novel astronomic observatory that enables visitors to enjoy the excellent quality of the privileged skies overhead.
Orienteering
We propose a different way of discovering La Aldea, either training for your favourite sport or simply losing yourself around its streets and finding unexplored corners all along its permanent orienteering circuit. The area around Playa de La Aldea also enables you to train in an area that was a host venue for the Gran Canaria O-Meeting 2018 with its varied terrain and spectacular surroundings.
Aquatic activities
Tranquil, transparent waters and around 30 km of virtually virgin coastline provide a warm welcome to visitors and invite them to navigate them by kayak or stand up paddle. La Aldea offers a wide range of locations ideal for diving and snorkelling, while its waves are an open invition to enjoy surfing and bodyboarding. A visit to the Ecotourist Marine Coastline Visitor Centre is essential before embarking on these activities so that you can learn all about the aquatic treasures awaiting you.
Bird watching
From Guguy to Inagua along the cliffs of Andén Verde, La Aldea offers us a huge array of birds to observe. The wetlands of La Marciega, at the mouth of La Aldea ravine, are home to a great variety of aquatic birds, both resident and migratory, as well as smaller woodland birds. It is also an ideal spot for lying back and enjoying a stunning sunset.
Montaña
An ideal location for enjoying nature and sport. Montaña is situated close to La Aldea’s town centre, enabling visitors to enjoy bio-health circuits. Its footpaths make it possible to plan a wide range of training routes and to warm up for events such as Paralelo28 or the TransGranCanaria.
BTT
One of the best ways to see the most spectacular parts of La Aldea is on the saddle of a mountain bike. Its dirt tracks enable us to plan a wide variety of routes in BTT, which are considered generally quite demanding, and to discover a truly unique landscape.
Live Museums
A unique kind of museum experience for the whole family with real life protagonists who show the society, culture and traditions of the residents of La Aldea from last century. These include La Gallanía, the school, the tomato warehouse, the oil and vinegar shop, barber’s shop and rural medicine shop, etc.
